Trauma Therapy
What is emotional ‘trauma’? The American Psychological Association (APA) defines trauma as “any disturbing experience that results in significant fear, helplessness, dissociation, confusion, or other disruptive feelings intense enough to have a long-lasting negative effect on a person’s attitudes, behavior, and other aspects of functioning.” Traumatic events are caused by the actions of another person(s) or those resulting from nature and the experience causes one to feel that their surroundings and possibly other people are not safe nor predictable. ViaSano Counseling specializes in treating trauma and adheres to the APA’s definition when assessing trauma, establishing and updating the treatment plan, and when utilizing trauma-informed therapies. All therapies are empirically-based, proven to be effective in lowering the effects of emotional trauma, and with the client’s participation in doing their inner work, they will also experience healing, gain new skills, and accomplish goals.
